The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

Message from the Pres

We have an outstanding Board of Directors. I knew that I could play hookie ...

and everything would run smoothly without me. As you know, I am an avid astronomer.

I could not resist seeing that total solar eclipse, so Jim (my brother) and I took off for Wyoming. What an awesome sight that eclipse was! You can see it on TV or in a magazine, but it is not the same. We hung out with a bunch of other astronomers. They brought so many telescopes that ours were not needed.

Well, I am back, tired out, and happy to be home. Just a little plug for the KRV Astronomy Club, we meet on the Saturday closest to the new moon at the Fairview Helispot, about 12 miles north of Kernville. The date and time is always in the newspapers.

We’d love to see you and show you the beautiful night skies in the Kern River Valley!

Clear skies!

Rich
