The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

Featured in the Art Gallery: The Walker Art Collection

During the month of March, the Museum Gallery will continue to feature the art collection of Ardis and Gayle Walker.

Over the years, the Walkers collected an interesting assortment of art ranging from oil paintings to woodcut prints, to lithographs, to watercolors and beyond. They assisted many “starving artists.”

Please come see this collection. This is the first time it is publicly displayed.

This will be our first education class at our new Annex...

and it is going to be a good one. Chris Livingston, archiving professor at Cal State Bakersfield will present a basic preservation class. Everyone has old pictures, documents, artifacts and collections that they’d like to preserve for future generations.

This class will help you learn how to properly care for and store these items. In addition, those of you who would like to help preserve the museum collection at the annex are encouraged to attend. Our volunteers will need to know these basic techniques in order to preserve our collection.

The class will be held Saturday, March 11th from 10 am to noon at the annex. Chris will be happy to stay over and answer any questions you might have.
