The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

Featured in the Art Gallery: The Walker Art Collection

During the month of March, the Museum Gallery will continue to feature the art collection of Ardis and Gayle Walker.

Over the years, the Walkers collected an interesting assortment of art ranging from oil paintings to woodcut prints, to lithographs, to watercolors and beyond. They assisted many “starving artists.”

Please come see this collection. This is the first time it is publicly displayed.

Did you know that there are three ladies who buy, change things around,...

pay the bills and just keep our Country Store running? They are constantly looking for things that YOU and our visitors may like to buy. .

When you buy something from our Gift Shop you probably wonder where the money goes! Well we give a donation to the Historical Society four times a year and they use those funds for whatever the Society needs at that time. Our total profits end up helping make the Museum what it is. AND we couldn’t run it without all the faithful Docents.

So the next time you see one or more of these ladies please say “THANK YOU” for all their work. They are Cindy Ott, Darlene Woloweic, and Vicki Middleworth.
