The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

Featured in the Art Gallery: The Walker Art Collection

During the month of March, the Museum Gallery will continue to feature the art collection of Ardis and Gayle Walker.

Over the years, the Walkers collected an interesting assortment of art ranging from oil paintings to woodcut prints, to lithographs, to watercolors and beyond. They assisted many “starving artists.”

Please come see this collection. This is the first time it is publicly displayed.

Will MacNeal, U.S. Forest Service Will gave a unique perspective of our...

local history and how it ties in with the history of the country. As he pointed out, we live in a special place.

Most places in the country have only a small part of the nation’s history as part of their local history, we almost have it all. He was very enthusiastic about what our historical society, the B.L.M. and the Forest service are doing to preserve our history. He grew up in Mississippi and has worked in many areas of the country.

It was fun to listen to someone from elsewhere who knows so much about us.
