The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

2nd Field Trip

On April 18th, the Historical Society is going to the Kern County Museum in Bakersfield...

We will have a tour of the newly restored boyhood home of country music legend Merle Haggard, and also tour the Howell House and Lopez Hill House.

The Howell house is a Victorian built in 1891 and the Lopez house was built in the early 1900’s. The Haggard family home started as a boxcar.

There is a $15.00 charge to visit so please bring cash.

We will leave the Senior Center at 9:00 AM. If you need a ride to car pool let me know. Our tour will begin at 10:00 AM.

Please call Joanne (see your Saddlebag) or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you plan to join us.

After the tour, we can enjoy the great restaurants of Bakersfield for lunch.
