The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

During the month of April:  Ceramics by Helen Smoot and Friends

Helen, a local world renowned concert pianist, will be showing her additional talents of being a ceramist.

She is a prolific potter who also gives ceramic classes as well as her music classes.

It is such a totally different discipline than studying, teaching and playing music--working with her hands getting all muddy in clay and never knowing what will result is exciting.

Helen will have some students and friends show their work along with her.

A reception will be held Saturday, April 15th 4 to 6 PM.

This is a once in a life time event.

Do come to meet the artists and talk about their work with them.

WOW! Members do come through! We have the following exhibits to anticipate:...

 April – Rod Middleworth will display “Crazy Cups”

 May - JoAnn Johnson will display Baskets

 June – Lois and Don Chapman will display Cups and Saucers

 July – Rebecca Giddens will display memorabilia from the Athens Olympics

 August – Frances Landsaw will coordinate a display of 'Rosie the Riveter' and 'Wendy the Welder'.

Thanks to John and Judy Dodd for extending their showing. Starting this week and for the month of April, drop by and view Rod Middleworth’s cup collection in the back room display case. They are part of a 300 cup collection of coffee cups that have been collected over the last 20 years. Most of them were given to him as an addition to his collection which was started while he and Vicki were traveling hither and yon! Stop by and be ready to chuckle........

You may sign up months in advance if your display is relevant to a specific month or event. If you have a collection to share, please call Linda Thurm (see your Saddlebag).
