The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

March Meeting Recap

KRVHS 50 Years.  Our curator, Dianna Anderson and friends gave a talk about...

the 50 year history of our Historical Society.

In 1967, we started with 11 people at the first meeting and 95 charter members! With a couple of bumps along the way, the Society and Museum have grown considerably.

Our Museum was initially planned for a building on Engineer’s Point. It became a reality in the Chamber of Commerce Building. It moved and expanded to the present building. And now, we’re expanding again with the annex. It took a lot of dedication, work and vision to make our Society what it is today.

The amazing part is that over time, the expansions were necessary because of generous donations. Also, we’ve managed to remain debt free!
