The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.
A Message from the Pres

This year, our 50th Anniversary Year, has been nothing short of spectacular...

for the Kern River Valley Historical Society and the Museum.

Look at our accomplishments so far this year.

  • We have completed the Annex at 60 Big Blue.
  • We were selected to be the Grand Marshall of the 2017 Whiskey Flats Parade.
  • We were recognized by Jean Fuller and awarded a beautiful plaque that is now hanging on the wall in Gift Shop. We have had articles about our accomplishments in local newspapers.
  • We have started very successful education classes at our new Annex, along with events such as the AARP driving classes and Bunko parties.
  • We have begun the long, drawn out process of moving the Walker Collection of books, art, and other artifacts to the Annex, cataloging all of it, and making it available for researchers to find where ever they may be.

History Days were filled with two days of fun and on June 4th we will have a 50th Year Celebration dinner and fun night at the Masonic Lodge. Sorry, the tickets are sold out.

Wow! We have been busy! I want to thank all of you who do what you can do to make our KRVHS so spectacular.

See you around the Museum. ---Rich Burdge
