The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.
The Curator’s Corner

Things get busier and busier! We’ve got a....

small group of folks working their tails off moving, organizing and inventorying our collections in the annex.

As we go along, we keep finding treasures! It is great fun! The problem is, we need more people. In two months time, we’ve logged 600 books into our computer data base. We have about 6,400 books to go. At that rate, it’ll take us a couple of years to get the job done. I’d sure like to be done before that!

We also have some tasks for those who are not into computers:

  • Organizing and boxing old newspapers.
  • Putting old scrapbooks into acid free scrapbooks.
  • Putting loose photos into protective sleeves, sorting them into categories, and putting them into archival boxes.
  • Boxing and moving items from the Walker House to the Annex.

Any way you look at it, we have lots of work to do!

If You’re interested in helping, please call me (see your Saddlebag).  Thanks much!
