The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.
Movies Under The Stars

This summer, for our 50th Anniversary, we’re doing something special:...

It’s Oscar Award Movies Summer. The three Oscar Award movies that were partially shot here in the Kern River Valley are Stagecoach (1939, Treasure of The Sierra Madre (1948), and The Defiant Ones (1958).

On Wednesday, June 14th, at 8:20 PM, we will be showing Stagecoach starring John Wayne and Claire Trevor.

It is fun to watch movies made here. We like to stop movies and point things out. It is also fun to root for the good guys and boo the bad. As always, popcorn is a nickel and sodas are 50 cents.

Hope to see you at the Pack Station behind the Museum for our June Oscar winning shoot-‘em-up movie!

On July 19th, we will show Treasure of Sierra Madre and August 9th, The Defiant Ones.

Mark your calendars!
