Iva Cross Fendrick is a fourth generation resident of Kern County of the Cross/Tilley Pioneers.

Her mother, Vina Cross was one of the founders of the Bakersfield Art Association. Her work is mainly watercolors with pen and ink.

Iva feels that we all have a need to reflect upon what gives us visual pleasure. “ When I see the soft shadows on the rolling hillsides, I long to capture that mood on paper for others to enjoy”.

At the reception on Saturday, July 8th from 4-6 pm, Randy Fendrick, Iva’s husband will be giving a book signing of his recently printed book “The Other Music of Bakersfield”.

Come to meet these two artistic people.

The Art Gallery is open Thursday thru Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm

Our last two classes at the Annex were taught by Ellen Miller....

They were about California Native Americans before and after European contact.

In the first of the series, Ellen talked about the lifestyle of native tribes, how they gathered and prepared food, how they traded with one another, and so forth.

In the second class, she told about the effects of the mission system on the tribes, the effects of white emigration during the Gold Rush, how disease decimated the population, and how they tried to cope with the changes.

It was interesting that not only did the Spanish and the Americans have an impact on the natives, but also the Russians. They intermarried with the Indians and bought land. They also collected Pomo Indian artifacts. They still have the largest Pomo artifact collection in the world!

Both classes were well attended and were very interesting.  Thank you Ellen.
