The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

July General Membership Meeting Recap

—One Spade Youth Packers If you missed the last General Meeting, you missed one of the best ones ever...

Reed Hopkins and his 1 Spade Youth Packers demonstrated their skills with the Fresno Scraper, The International Disc, and mule packing. These kids are fantastic! And they can do things that 99.9% of people can only imagine!

They don’t just read history out of books. They know how hard great-grandpa worked on the farm. They also know how mule packers took supplies into remote areas like ours and helped to expand the West. They can also drive wagons.

In May, they competed in Mules Days again. They won more than 30 ribbons! It was really inspiring to watch them! In addition to the 1 Spade kids, the Sheriff’s Activities League came to lead us in the flag salute. It is really great to see these wonderful Kern Valley kids doing positive things in our community!
