The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

A Message from the Pres

Boy! The building at 60 Big Blue is serving the Historical Society well....

Not only does it house a collection of books and paintings from Gayle and Ardis Walker along with other important documents from our history-filled Kern River Valley, the beautiful building has also hosted an array of events this year

—history classes featuring interesting topics, preservation classes on how to save your precious photos and documents, and Bunco parties. (They had a ball!) Want to be a writer? We had a class on how to do that too! We previewed Wild West Country, Episode 3. One of our board members even treated the others to a sit-down dinner one evening.

The building is a super place to meet. I am amazed at the use it receives. You know the old saying, “Build it, they’ll come.” Well, they have! I want to thank all who arrange these special programs and presentations at 60 Big Blue. P. S. It’s a fabulous place for your hard working, spirited energy board of directors to meet also!

See ya around the museum,
