The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

Nov Meeting-A Western Movie!

I want to thank everyone for a great year of programs for our 50th Anniversary...

Thanks to all of the great people who presented the programs, all of the great folks who helped setup the chairs, the audio- visual equipment, all the great munches and drinks for after the program.

Here is a review of the programs we had this year:

  • The History of Kernville's Whiskey Flats Encampments by Mike Woodward; US-Forest service by Will MacNeal;
  • The History of our Historical Society by Dianna Anderson;
  • Buffalo Man- Rod Blankenship;
  • SAL Sheriffs Activity League & Deputy Josh Cain;
  • High Sierra Wild Horse Sanctuary-Nadia Lane;
  • 1-Spade Youth Packers & Reid Hopkins;
  • Our Great Pot Luck Dinner;
  • Glenda Rankin on the Cattle Women's Association;
  • US Forest Service- Deputy District Ranger Phillip Desenze;
  • Movie Night this month.

It has been an honor to serve as the program director. I plan on continuing as your program director for the next 2 years.

So I'm asking all members of the Historical Society to please send me any of your ideas for programs for 2018. I have a few good ideas.

Programs that we have had in the past few years can be considered.
