The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

It’s been quite a year for the museum and the annex!...

Actually more for the annex, but I promise to get back to museum displays after the first of the year. I

’d like to take the time to thank the team of people who have worked so hard setting up the furnishings, moving the Walker Collection, moving the Museum Collection, gathering the Bob Powers collection and getting all of this stuff organized! Without them, we’d have a building and not much else. They have been a godsend!

The regulars are: John Newman, Roy Fluhart, Ron Anderson, Eddi Looy, Martha Allington, Charlie Gregory, Gene Verbeet, Teri Verbeet, Larry Holochwost Terri Gallion, Jayne Hotchkiss-Price, Linda Adams, and Cory Rothert. Others who have helped include: Rich Burdge, Shirley Real, Vicki Middleworth, JoAnn Johnson, Vera Anderson, Steve Passarelli, Eleanor Fahey, Ron Bolyard, Tammy Hartman, Robert Rusby, Kim Salisbury, Bruce Vegter, and Bob Woods.

These people have worked over 2,500 hours over the last 14 months in order to make the Research Annex happen. We are hoping to open the doors to the public shortly after the first of the year. We will let you know the days and the hours then.

I’d like to thank everyone for their encouragement and support. I’d especially like to thank my husband, Ron, for his support and patience!
