The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

A Note from Your Editor

As I wind up my tenure as editor of the Saddlebag,...

I’d like to thank you all for your encouragement and patience. I know I haven’t always gotten everything right, but you haven’t beaten me up too much!

I’ve enjoyed putting out the Saddlebag each month, especially when I can write articles about the history of the area.

I’d especially like to thank Rod and Vicki Middleworth for being my best supporters. Rod knows how much work it is to put out the newsletter and he has never failed to support and encourage me.

I’d like to introduce you to the new editor of the Saddlebag, Ashley Loza.  Ashley is all too familiar with the Historical Society because of her mother, Tammy Hartman. She recently got her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and she works at the Kern Valley Sun. I literally jumped for joy when she said that she would take on our newsletter! With her expertise, she will bring it to new heights. Give her a hearty welcome!
