The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.
The Kern River Valley Historical society is always doing something interesting and fun. We have monthly trips to places with historical significance or relevance to life in our region.
In May we host our annual History Day Event to celebrate our heritage. Demonstrations of Dutch Oven Cooking (free samples), Butter Churning with free samples on home-made bread, Gold Panning, Black Smithing and more. Live entertainment and exhibits. Free refreshments. This year, History Day is Saturday May 18th from 9am to 5pm.
In warmer months we host, "Movies under the Stars", in our backyard for members and guests. Our annual Ice-Cream Social, in July at Greenhorn Mountain is always a welcomed relief from the heat of the Valley.
August, is our annual pot-luck dinner. September, a picnic to thank our many volunteers.
