Country Store Gift Shop
The Kern River Valley Historical Society has been in operation for over 40 years. Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. To achieve these goals we have established the Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville next to the Post Office.

Country Store Gift Shop
In our gift shop you will find for sale, books, maps, clothing, jewelry and host of other items.

You will also find the old Post Office Boxes that once were used by the residents of the Piute Mountains in a town called Claraville (no longer there).

Another point of interest is the floor.  It is made of Southern Yellow Pine rescued from a 100 year old building in North Carolina.  The ceiling is made of stamped/pressed tin similar to that found in homes and business's of the late 1800's.

You can learn more of the Kern River Valley history and pioneer stories through the many books on sale, including the series of historical books written by Bob Powers, that chronicle the rich history of the people and events as only a fifth generation rancher could tell it.
