The Kern River Valley Historical Society is celebrating over 50 years of operation! Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. The Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville, next to the Post Office, welcomes visitors to explore our rich history.

What's Happening

May was a very special month. The Cornerstone/ Time Capsule Ceremony was very memorable.

Thank you, Tom McKinney, and our local Masonic Lodge #827 for organizing and bringing the Grand Masonic Lodge of California to Kernville to honor us. Rich Burdge and crew did a fantastic job of putting together our History Days. That weekend, we received a very generous donation from the Tom Anderson Family. This donation is very much appreciated. Tom was always a big supporter of our Historical Society and the Kern River Valley. Finally, thank you to all of you volunteers who come through again and again.

This month, we will not be as busy as we were in May. I think we are taking a bit of a breather. However, we certainly are not closing down. There will be an opportunity for stargazing at the airport. Both Jupiter, our largest planet, and Saturn, rings and all, will be up to be seen through telescopes. Movies Under The Stars is back. We will have our General Meeting, as always, and the museum and annex will be following their usual schedules.

Have a great start to summer!
