The Kern River Valley Historical Society is celebrating over 50 years of operation! Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. The Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville, next to the Post Office, welcomes visitors to explore our rich history.

What's Happening

Dianna and I have just gotten back from our vacation of nearly two weeks to Virginia and to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This was the area in North Carolina, at Kitty Hawk, where the Wright Brothers introduced manned flight to the world in 1903. The hill that they flew from is called Kill Devil Hill. What a name for a hill!

Anyway, we’re back, and it has taken us a little while to get back up to speed. What we discovered upon our return is that our historical society has been humming along smoothly without us. This was not surprising to us, but very gratifying. Our society has depth, staying power, and very dedicated volunteers who are always there and get things done.

It takes all of us to keep things running smoothly and I thank all of you who make it happen. Anyway, we’re glad to be back.
