The Kern River Valley Historical Society is celebrating over 50 years of operation! Our mission is to preserve and communicate the rich and colorful history of this region. The Kern Valley Museum in downtown Kernville, next to the Post Office, welcomes visitors to explore our rich history.

What's Happening

As the summer heats up the valley, the people visiting from near and far just LOVE to come in to our little Country Store and browse around.

We have a good variety of things for the children: puzzles, marbles, horns, dolls, books and a lot of rocks! Other things in the store which seem to draw our visitors are our selection of books.

We have one whole bookcase that is full of books written by the people in our valley. The most prominent are the books written by Bob Powers, and they are always a hit, but we also have a wonderful cookbook that was put together by the members of the Society! AND also a beautiful cookbook by the Rankins!

These are just a few of the locals. On the other shelves we have books about nature, travel, geology, and a great variety of other cookbooks! This is just a sample of what is on those shelves! Why don’t you drop in and check it out? You will be surprised at the selection!
